| 5 cups flour | 3/4 cup shortening | 1 tbsp soda |
| 1 tbsp salt | 3 tbsp sugar | 3 tbsp baking powder |
| 2 cups buttermilk | 1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/2 cup water | |
| 1 | Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening; add buttermilk and yeast. Mix with spoon until all flour is moistened. Cover bowl and store in refrigerator until ready to use. Take out as much as needed; roll to 1/2-in on floured board; cut. Bake at 400 F. about 12 minutes. |
